Staff Sgt. William Carlson, a weapons loader assigned to the 451st Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, performs maintenance on an F-16 Fighting Falcon bomb carriage.
Personnel are deployed from McEntire Joint National Guard Base, S.C., in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Swamp Fox F-16′s, pilots, and support personnel began their Air Expeditionary Force deployment early April to take over flying missions for the air tasking order and provide close air support for troops on the ground in Afghanistan.

A soldier in the 74th Motorized Battalion in the Slovenian Army finds cover and watches for the opposing force as part of a deliberate attack exercise during the Immediate Response 2012 (IR12) training event held in Slunj, Croatia on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. 
IR12 is a multinational tactical field training exercise that will involve more than 700 personnel primarily from the U.S. Army Europe’s 2nd Calvary Regiment and Croatian armed forces, with contingents from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Slovenia. Macedonia and Serbia will send observers to the exercise. 
The exercise is a part of USEUCOM’s joint training and exercise program designed to enhance joint and combined interoperability between the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, Croatian Armed Forces and partner nations, and will help prepare participants to operate successfully in a joint, multinational, interagency, integrated environment.

The mission of the 71st EQRS is to provide personnel recovery, casualty evacuation and aeromedical evacuation assets to hostile locations. The 71st EQRS is the only fixed wing aircraft squadron dedicated to medical evacuation missions in Afghanistan.
