The littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2) is underway in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. Sailors assigned to Independence’s Gold crew and embarked Mine Countermeasures Squadron, Detachment 1, departed Naval Station Mayport for the transit to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the mine countermeasures mission package.
The son of Electrician’s Mate (Nuclear) 1st Class Randall White, assigned to the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), waves to his father’s ship as it transits San Diego Bay after departing Naval Air Station North Island on a scheduled deployment to the western Pacific region.

Wounded Warriors learning to live with lower extremity amputations are taking part in a study at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego to help the amputees increase their ability to recover from falls. Experts are testing the patients in a virtual reality system, where they are are learning how the wounded warriors recover from falls.
